A platform for green and blue infrastructure for the second time

Prague plans to plant a million trees in the fight against climate change, and up to ten million trees within the Czech Republic. Is it enough? It will help? What role can modern technology and the Internet play in these efforts?

We will be able to hear about the platform in the future as well

Based on this meeting of the Platform for Green and Blue Infrastructure, a common position of the Platform will be formed in the form of the so-called Policy Brief addressed to local government representatives, legislators and other stakeholders in the field.

The meeting of experts within the Platform will continue. “Another topic of the Platform will be the topic of rainwater management in cities and municipalities,” added Jan Macháč, FSE UJEP, the main organizer of the Platform.

The platform for green and blue infrastructure was established within the project of the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem SMART CITY – SMART REGION – SMART COMMUNITY.

Czech-German conference and green and blue infrastructure

On Thursday, November 28, 2019, a Czech-German conference was held at UJEP dealing with the importance of green and blue infrastructure for the quality of life in cities. The aim of the conference was to present and discuss partial results of the cross-border project BIDELIN, which focuses on the evaluation of ecosystem services in the partner cities of Liberec, Děčín and Dresden.

Ecosystem services are the benefits that one obtains from nature. Especially in cities, it is important to cool the surroundings and reduce the costs of air-conditioning, water retention and flood damage, capture of harmful substances from the air, but also aesthetic function and positive impacts on the health of the population. The conference presented the evaluation of parks and other greenery in cities. The network of interconnected water and green elements in the urban environment is referred to as green-blue infrastructure.
