Key symposiums

Chemistry and Biomedical Chemistry

Symposium includes all branches of pure chemistry, like analytical, inorganic, physical, and organic chemistry. This year, the section will be extended to biochemistry, medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, evoking interesting discussions on screening/treatment of particularly challenging diseases, biochemical pharmacology, enzymology, as well as novel and revisited drug discovery approaches.

Biology and Molecular Biology

The traditional topics of this section include current knowledge and methods of biological and biochemical analysis, biological active substances of microorganisms and plants, biochemistry and enzymology, molecular biology and genetics, as well as genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. The section promises the arresting presentation of techniques and experiments of scientists.

Biotechnology and Enviromental Technology

The symposium focuses on conventional and modern microbial and biochemical technologies. Further, it creates a platform for presenting the recent achievements and progress in the recombinant DNA technology and genetic modification of microorganisms and plants with improved traits. Special attention will be devoted to technologies and approaches for (bio)remediation of contaminated environments. The topics include: speciation modelling of toxic elements in soil-plant systems; transport and transformation of toxic and radioactive pollutants in the environment; water- and atmospheric analysis; land-, solids- and waste analysis; nuclear- and electro-analytical methods; environmental monitoring.

Applied Informatics

The symposium is aimed at theoretical and applied research in the fields of applied and theoretical informatics, distributed and parallel computing, computer processing of languages, information and communication systems, internet and multimedia, database systems, software design and object-oriented programming, education and other fields of applied informatics.

Young Scientists

The conference provides a forum for young researchers (mainly PhD students and postdocs) working in different research disciplines including chemistry, biology, biotechnology, physics, and informatics. They will all have an opportunity to present their work in animated oral or e-poster presentation sessions. The students with the best presentations and those with the best e-posters will be awarded. The conference encourages interdisciplinary and international communication among young researchers to facilitate collaborative research, networking, and knowledge transfer.

Visits by foreign experts at UJEP

UJEP has been actively cooperating with foreign companies for a long time. Several foreign experts visited the University of Ústí as part of the STUVIN project. This has been a great asset to the University, as both the staff and students and the public have the opportunity to meet and discuss each other on a variety of topics. At the same time, the experiences that are used in the creation of new fields of study are shared.

During the solution of the STUVIN project, which is coordinated by the Faculty of the Environment, many internships of FŽP and PřF were mediated and very interesting and important guests came to UJEP. We bring you an overview of the most interesting visitors.

LIGMIG – a new project will support young scientists in research

The team of workers and students of the Faculty of Environment and the Faculty of Science succeeded in the call of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic within the program ZÉTA to support applied research. The program aims to connect academia and businesses and support young scientists under 35 years of age.

The team led by Dr. Hana Malinska, Ph.D. The Commission has been interested in the plan to optimize the process of producing energy biomass with regard to its chemical composition. The project is a follow-up to several years of research on the cultivation of the energy crop Miscanthus x giganteus on contaminated and infertile soils carried out at the FŽP in cooperation with other faculty staff.

HR Excellence in Research Award na UJEP

Our university met the demanding conditions of the European Commission and on June 3, 2019, it won the prestigious European award “HR Excellence in Research Award”. It is only the fourth university in the Czech Republic to receive this quality certificate as a whole.

Information on HRS4R process, its implementation on UJEP and UJEP Action Plan.

“I consider the awarding of the HR Award an extraordinary success. Receiving a European Quality Certificate in such a challenging process and in such a lucrative company is highly regarded. I realize that this was a very demanding process, and I would like to thank all university employees for their excellent work, ”concludes Rector UJEP doc. Martin Balej.

Smart region forum Ústí region

At the end of 2017, the Smart Region Concept Document Ústí nad Labem Region was created. In this paper, the Commission has taken the Smart Region to aim for cities and regions to work together to develop Smart concepts. After more than a year of working group activity, specific sub-concepts are created, data inventories are performed. All this leads to how to connect not only data, but also people, citizens and visitors to the Ústí Region. For better development, Commissioners have decided to hold discussions with many experts and one of them was Jan Evangelista Purkyně University.

The Smart Region Forum of the Ústí Region was the name of the event whose organization was in charge of the Ústí Region. The event took place on 25 April 2019 in Chomutov and was composed of three parts. One of them was the Smart Region conference, which focused on coordinating Smart Region and Smart Cities concepts. The second part was the Smart Water conference, which focused on the solution for sustainable development of the Ústí Region and the last one was the Technodays fair. Within Technodays, there was a presentation of companies of technical and craft fields.

Water in cities: Organica Water and us

Smart and water? Water purification can look different, we have been inspired where the purifier does not have to be hidden from the city’s residents and can become a valid part of the holiday zones.

On 5-6 March 2019, a two-day study visit to Budapest took place, organized by the Union for the Establishment and Maintenance of Green in the framework of the “Smart and Green – On the Spot in Visegrad Cities” project. This project is thematically friendly to the “Smart city – Smart region – Smart community” project, which is also addressed by the research team from UJEP, for which Marek Hekrle attended the visit.

The study visit focused on successfully implemented examples of smart wastewater management and blue and green urban infrastructure. An important purpose of the visit was also the interdisciplinary drawing of ideas and knowledge about smart technologies and the establishment of international cooperation among participants from the Visegrad countries.
